Attending a high school with the name Social Justice has really shaped my interpretation of those two words .When i first entered high school in 2011 i honestly had no clue school would have so much to do with the community or social rights. i would have to say throughout the journey of being a student at social justice those words mean to me not only conquering justice but the fight to get there ,however, when i first came to Little Village my thoughts were a bit different and sojo didn't mean much to me deeply .I thought of social justice as just words with individual meanings My freshman year of Highschool in world studies we went through units the whole school year that had to do with inequality. The class went into details with different topics . Although the topics were mainly learning history . Somehow teachers always made it clear social justice is always apart of everything and i enjoy connecting history to it . As in racism , imperialism ,superior races these topics always lead to a way to apply justice . When learning about superior races the whole idea was to have an understanding how people took it into their power to change things with that comes the whole concept of social justice .
My sophomore year was off to a bumpy start . The idea of Social Justice was coming to a dead end when the students went from no principle to different principles .With that came different policies the biggest policy change was the use of our A.P classes which were fully taken away from the students. However, Sojo students challenged the principle and fought for A.P classes. The seniors that year arranged a sit out until our demands for the classes were granted back . After that day Little Village was on tv for teacher strikings . Teachers had been fired and dropped dramatically and were fighting for their jobs back . After that year i was extremely proud to be apart of Social Justice and their beliefs .
My definition changed after the sit out and strike i then was a witness of Social Justice and was beyond proud of my classmates . Social Justice happened the day the seniors got their A.P classes back however , Social Justice is always something that needs to be fought for . People deal with everyday situations that have no justice . I still believe the struggle continues and there's plenty of issues throughout the world that are calling for justice . Social Justice High School taught me my myself and my community can change the world and help better our world. The minimum wage is $8.25 and controversy has been going with an increase to almost $12. Talk has been going but no action.Social Justice hasnt been achieved ! No matter what the topic /issue is or how difficult it may seem justice can happen . Having a bright mindset for the future of your community is always a good thing to try to manage . Speaking your mind and following what is right is a very important skill i learned at my very own school.
